The skylit atrium of the Brooklyn Army Terminal (BAT) in Sunset Park in Brooklyn in New York
The skylit atrium of the Brooklyn Army Terminal (BAT) in Sunset Park in Brooklyn in New York is seen on Saturday, September 21, 2013. Originally the NY Port of Embarkation and Army Supply Base, also the Military Ocean Terminal, the BAT was built in 1918 and designed by noted architect Cass Gilbert, who also designed the Woolworth Building. The lack of extraneous ornamentation and decoration predates the Bauhaus movement. It is currently run by the NYC Economic Development Corp, having been sold to NYC in 1981 and contains dozens of businesses. (© Richard B. Levine)
