To get the best results, a careful selection of kinds and varieties is important, as there is a great difference between some of the improved varieties and the older types of the flowers. From our trials of many varieties of flowers we would make the following suggestions as to the choice of kinds and varieties for outdoor culture : The flower that blooms the earliest and is probably the most popular and satisfactory to raise is the Sweet Pea. We ofler a few of tlie finest varieties. We prefer to raise the varieties separately, but many people like the mixed varieties as they get more kinds for their money. Either produce beautiful flowers that continue to bloom for months if watered in dry weather. the seed is started in boxes or hot-beds in March, the plants will bloom early in the summer, but the seed can be sown in the open ground and the plants will flower in the late summer. The " New Branching " is a most graceful variety and flowers profusely. The Comet and Japanese are also most att: active varieties. Bachelor's Button is a hardy early-flowering plant. Improved varieties, New Double and Centaurea Mar- garita are worthy of a place in every garden. Nasturtiums are of such great beauty, both as decora- tive plants and cut flowers that they should be grown in great abundance. The Lobb's Nasturtiums are the best and earliest to flower. There is another flower somewhat resembling the nas- turtium, but of entirely diflerent habit of growth, that has not had the attention it deserves. This is Salpi- glossis.
