The Xew Orleans, Opelousas andGreat Western line, crosses the low pen-insular part of the State westward fromNew Orleans, 73 miles to Bayou route is to be continued north-westward through the State past Alex-andria and Natchitoches to a junctionwith other projected lines in Texas. The Mexican Gulf R. R. runs from NewOrleans to Proctorsville,onLake Borgne. The New Orleans, Milneburg and LakePontchartrain, and the Xew Orleans andCarrollton Railways, are short routesfrom Xew Orleans.
