Charles Darwin visited Cerro Santa Lucia in August 1834. He proclaimed the view from the top 'most striking'. The garden commemorates the visit of this eminent English naturalist. Manuel Vicuna Larrain (1778-1843) was the first Archbishop of Santiago de Chile. Between 1561 and 1840 the head of the Roman Catholic Church in Santiago was titled 'Bishop'. With his appointment in 1840, the position was elevated to 'Archbishop'.
