Puffin (13. Fratercnla drctica). — A very stout-billed diver, with the upper parts, including a band around the neck, brown- ish-black, breast and belly wrhite, and the sides of the head grayish - wrhite. The bill in life, especially during the breeding season, is peculiarly ridged and of bright red, blue, and white colors. Breeding birds have a horny spine over the eye. (Sea- Parrot.)
