He became one of the lead-ing and iniluential citizens of Warren and look an acti\e part in the otiticiallife of the city, serving as justice of the i>eace for many years, also as a mem-ber and president of the board of education, while for twelve years he occu-pied the position of chief executive of Warren, and his administration asmayor proved of practical lienefit to the city along lines of substantial im-provement and ])rogress. His death occurred there in 1878. In early man-hood he married Nancy L. Reeves, a daughter of John Reeves, a pioneer ofTrumbull county, who was born in Connecticut and removed to Pennsyl-vania from that state and later became one of the first to locate in Trumbullcountv, Ohio. When he had completed his literary education he at onceentered upon the study of medicine under Dr. John R. Woods of Warren,and after his preliminar} reading was accomplished he enteied the medicaldepartment of the Uni^ersit} of Michigan, at Ann Arbor, and was graduatedthere in June, 1882, after three years of earnest and uniemitting the following year Dr. Dawson filled the position of assistant sur-geon at the Quincy copper mines of
