Bee waggle dance. Computer illustration of a dancing honey bee (Apis mellifera, centre). The bee is using its waggle dance to convey the location of food to the bees surrounding it. When a foraging bee has found food it returns to the hive and dances a figure of eight. The orientation of the central line of the dance indicates the position of the food source in relation to the Sun, while any waggles of the bee's body show the food's distance. These highly social insects are found throughout the world. They are kept by humans for the honey they produce.
