Sow as early in the spring as the ground is fit to work, frost does not hurt beets. For late sowing soak the seed in warm water twenty- four hours, sow in drills fourteen inches a- part; the first weeding thin out to four or five inches apart. Pull in the fall before they get a hard frost on them. Store for winter use in barrels with five or six inches of sand on top in a cool cellar just above the freezing point.
