When in command in theMediterranean, he received orders to expel the Frenchfrom Egypt, and, landing at Aboukir Bay on the 8thMarch, 1801, he was completely successful in resistinga violent attack by the French general, Menou. Un-happily, Sir Ralph was wounded in the thigh and diedseven days later. Sir Ralphs third son James was electedSpeaker of the House of Commons in 1835 and, on. Sir Ralph Abercromby ROLL OF HONOUR 73 relinquishing office in 1839, was created Baron Dun-fermline. Hence the claim, which was inscribed on anold village flag, that Tullibody has served its countrywith valour in the field and with firmness in the Senate. Another famous soldier was the first Lord Colvilleof Culross, to whom the estate of Tillicoultry served under Henry of Navarre against the CatholicLeague. Raised to the peerage by James VI in 1609,he spent his latter years at Tillicoultry, where he died in1620.
