He arrived in Salt Lake CityNov. 30, 1856, and went to Cedar City,Iron county, where he made his perma-nent home. Here he served for twentyyears as a Ward teacher; was ordainedan Elder Feb. 19, 1860, and ordained aSeventy April 17, 1863. He became iden-tified with the 63rd quorum of Seventy,and was chosen to be a president inthat quorum May 5, 1866. March 14, 1869,he was ordained a High Priest and setapart to act as a member of the HighCouncil of the Parowan Stake, by Apos-. tle Erastus Snow. He was set apartas second counselor to Bishop Christo-pher J. Arthur, of Cedar City, July 29,1877, by Apostle Erastus Snow, and la-ter he was set apart as Bishop Arthursfirst counselor. May 5, 1884, he was setapart as first counselor to Bishop Hen-ry Lunt, by Pres. John Taylor. In 1889he served six months imprisonment inthe Utah penitentiary for consciencesake. He was set apart as a memberof the Parowan Stake High CouncilJune 23, 1889, and he was set apart byApostle Heber J. Grant to be secondcounselor to Pres. Thos. J. Jones ofParowan Stake Sept. 23, 1889. When theStake was reorganized, March 21, 1892,he was set apart as second counselor toPres. Uriah T. Jones, and later (June 21,1896,) he was chosen first counselor to 534 LATTER-DAY SAINT Pres.
