The modest home that was the birthplace of Carl Sandburg. The famous, Pulitzer Prize winning poet and author was born in Galesburg in 1878. He lived the majority of his life in Illinois and the Midwest before moving to North Carolina later in life where he passed away in 1967 at the age of 89. Following his death, he was cremated and his ashes are interred under a granite boulder located behind his birth house.
