The GOITRED GAZELLE (Gazella subgutturosa). With this species we come to the true gazelles, in which the tailis considerably longer than in gutturosa, przewalskii, and picticaudata,being from six to eight inches in length and black, while tufts of longhair on the knees, glands on the face and in the groin are alwaysdeveloped. In immature animals a dark streak in front of the eyes ispresent, but in many adult specimens this and the light fawn of theupper part of the face are very indistinct and often wanting in thewinter coat. Horns, which are absent in the female, relatively large GOITRED AND SAIKIK GAZELLES 243 and divergent. The rump-patch extends to the root of the tail, andthe ears are small.
