Now, if capacitor C (Fig. 2) is tuned to opproach thethird overtone resonant frequency, a point will be reach-ed where the crystal ceases to oscillate on its funda-mental and begins to oscillate on its overtone fre-quency. At this point a change In the oscillator fre-quency occurs, since the overtone frequency is not aneven multiple of the fundamental. An increase In gridcurrent and output on the third harmonic will be notedas caplcator C is tuned. This some circuit may be usedon even harmonics, however the crystal continues tooscillate on Its fundamental in this case. Thus it canbe seen that the Robert Dollar circuit will oscillateunder a wide variety of conditions and if the tunedcircuit L-C is not properly adjusted, overtone operotlonwill not be realized.
