Church of the Good Shepherd, Evangelical church in Neo Gothic style by Architect Karl Doflein Friedrich Wilhelm Platz, Friedenau,Tempelhof-Schöneberg,Berlin. The foundation stone was laid on the birthday of Empress Auguste Viktoria and she was also present at the inauguration The villa suburb of Friedenau founded between 1871 and 1875 was named after the peace treaty of Frankfurt in 1871, "Frieden-Au". The number of inhabitants increased rapidly in the following decades. The idea of building a church in Friedenau came up in the early 1870s. As early as 1883, the rural community of Friedenau had provided a plot of land for the construction of the church, but it was not until 1891 that construction of the church for the Friedenau parish, which became independent on October 1, 1889, began. The Empress was aware of previous work by the architect Doflein and she wanted a previous design to be used on the church on Friedrich-Wilhelm-Platz. At the request of the congregation, the Empress assumed patronage of the church. The church was damaged during Allied air raids in World War II. The windows were damaged, the roof was largely destroyed and the murals were destroyed by weather damage. After the war, the interior was simply restored, but later renovations brought it back closer to the original. The church is a listed monument. For the 75th anniversary of the church in 1968, the church was completely redesigned to plans by Peter Lehrecke and the historic church would become a modern parish church.
