A Saami bride and bridegroom getting dressed in traditional clothes before their wedding ceremony Kautkeino Norway

Relatives help a Saami bride and bridegroom get dressed in traditional clothes before their wedding ceremony in the church of Kautokeino, Norway. The dark blue tunics are made of wool and the trousers and the winter shoes of reindeer fur. The bride wears a silk scarf, that is held together with a set of silver brooches, while the groom wears a silver belt around his waist. The Saami living in Kautokeino celebrate weddings and other life cycle ceremonies at Easter time, after which the reindeer herders move with their herds to the Atlantic coast for summer pasture.
