Incontinence implant. Coloured frontal X-ray of the pelvic region of a 61-year-old woman with a sacral nerve stimulator (SNS) implanted in the abdomen

Incontinence implant. Coloured frontal X-ray of the pelvic region of a 61-year-old woman with a sacral nerve stimulator (SNS) implanted in the abdomen (white lines, centre left and right). SNS delivers an electrical impulse to stimulate the sacral nerve as a treatment for those with bladder control problems. It is thought that the impulse from SNS facilitates communication between the brain and bladder, helping to relieve the symptoms of urinary retention or an over-active bladder. The stimulators are controlled by the device at upper left.
