It consistsof three stories, with two gateways, 24 ft. in height, and isconstructed of huge, uncemented blocks of lias sandstone, black-ened by time. In 1035 it was converted into a church, and thelower story filled up. In this state it remained till 1817 whenit was restored to its ancient condition by the Prussian govern-.
