Pipes carrying solar-heated water on the Braamwisch Ecological Housing Estate, part of the Karlshohe Solar Project, Hamburg, Germany. These underground domestic pipes transport water heated by rooftop solar heat collectors to the main water storage tank. The solar heat collectors absorb the energy from sunlight, which heats the water. The water can then be stored as a hot water supply or can be used to heat the building.
