The stems are erect, slender, becoming wiry. Whole ])laiit hairless, slightly waxy. Leaves st;ilkless, extremelv numerous, mostly alternate, linear, without teeth or divi- .sions, acute at both ends. Flowers nearly an inch long, showy pale yellow with orange'lips, borne ill erect ilclise racemes; the two-lobed corolla closed ;iiid mouth-like, but, bv a gentle pressure at the sides, it opens ami closes like the muzzle of an animal.
