This painting, known as Der Falkensteiner Ritt (The Falkensteiner Ride), is by the German painter Moritz von Schwind and dates to 1834/35. The original is in a museum in Leipzig, Germany. The subject here is the legend of the knight Kuno of Sayn, who fell in love with the daughter of the lord of the castle of Falkenstein. If Kuno wanted to marry her, he had to make passage the treacherous way to the castle. Kuno, with some help, does complete the task. Here Kuno is riding to the castle to claim his prize - his bride.
