At the last meeting of the American Pomological Society, Mr. Carpenter of New York said he was much pleased with it as a thrifty tree and good fruit, keeping into winter. The President assented fully, and said it had been too much overlooked. Messrs. Downing and Barry expressed the same opinion. The trees in Scarboro', stand- ing in a low, uudraincd situation, pretty moist, if not absolutely wet, suffered severely in the winter of 1856-7 ; but the fact that.
