Buckyball molecule integrated into an electric circuit, conceptual computer artwork. A buckyball, or buckminsterfullerene, is a structurally distinct form (allotrope) of carbon. It has 60 carbon atoms arranged in a spherical structure consisting of interlinking hexagonal and pentagonal rings. Buckyballs can trap metallic elements, allowing their electronic properties to be fine-tuned, which may be useful in electronic devices and circuitry.
