. Journal of the New York Institute of Stomatology, American Academy of Dental Science, Harvard Odontological Society and the Metropolitan District (Mas . hroot; but occasionally they grow at a short distance from thetooth root. They are usually small. The wall is fibrous, witha lining of squamous epithelium ; the contents fluid. As a rule, an inflammatory process which involves the peridental membraneantedates the cyst. This etiological relationship seems to dependupon stimulation of the above described debris by the proximityof the inflammatory process. When an apical pericementitis fol-lowing death of the pulp is the causative lesion, as is most oftenthe case, a granuloma frequently develops at the summit of theroot. This granuloma may present a cavity filled with purulentmaterial but it must not be confused with the cyst under discus-sion. In or near the wall of the granuloma lie parts of thedebris and these may profilerate and undergo cystic formationunder the stimulus of the adjacent inflammatory process. These cysts occasionally give rise to some pain, more or lessartive either in one-halt of the face or in the affected Fig. 7.
