Transport Sierra arrives at Pier 4, Port of Embarkation, Hoboken, NJ, bringing back wounded soldiers on December 21, 1918. The ship carried 35 officers and 1,531 men, most of whom were convalescent. The wounded were taken to the West Shore Station on hospital ships Shinne cook and Oasining, and then transported by rail to Camp Merritt. Illinois and Kansas troops are seen attending a noon mass on the top deck of the Shinne- cock. The photograph was passed by the censor on December 24, 1918.
