Numerous navigators, toe old as well as the living, have described this people at various localities on the coast COMPARATIVE ANATOMY OF RACES, 435 Fig. New Guinea-man. FlQ. The tribes appear everywhere to be substantially the same:skin more or less black, features Negro, hair woolly andformed into enormous tufts. This (Fig. 287) is a fair specimen of the inhabitantsof New Guinea, which not only presents the Negro com-plexion, and features like the Australian, but also thewoolly hair.
