They would never have driven usfrom that stone wall. Carrolls Brigade had one West Virginia regiment (the Tth), which, with the14th Indiana, 4th and Sth (Jhio, constituted the brigade. There was a story to the effect that when Carroll had restored the line, the captain of one of therecaptured batteries asked him if he ilesired any change in the jiosition of the guns. Carroll said:No; the jiosition is well enough, but (pointing to one of his regiments in line behind the fence) youhad better get your guns away when those Hoosiers quitl ^^i^-i^if p^-v.
