Early maturing varietiesshould be used. The larvae are cannibalistic, devouring each otherwhen more than one are present in a single ear, hence the trap plantis peculiarly valuable. Trap plants must be watched and destroyed,or at least the worms destroyed before any become full grown anddescend to the ground to pupate. Garden crops other than corn maybe protected by having a few hills of corn in silk when the other cropswould ordinarily be injured.
