Heliograph. Historical illustration of a heliograph as used by the British as part of a telegraphy system. Mirrors mounted on sticks and tripods were used to transmit signals by flashes of sunlight off the mirrors. Such systems were used by the British Army in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
