The River Ravensbourn at the Sundermead Estate, Lewisham

The Sundermead Estate is situated in the heart of Lewisham, close to both the main line and DLR stations and the London Transport Bus Station. The key site is closely linked to the SRB6 Urban Renaissance in Lewisham programme that has been awarded £16 million of SRB funding. A two-phase regeneration scheme on the site of the former Sundermead Estate delivers rental and shared ownership units for London & Quadrant Housing Trust and its shared ownership division, Tower Homes. The first phase comprising 96 units took place on the former Lewisham Council Highways Depot site and was completed in February 2005. Construction on the second phase which will provide 108 units is currently underway. on completion of this scheme, the new area will be known as River Mill Park. This section of the river ravensbourne sat in a concrete culvert. This has now been removed and a wider, landscaped river bank has been put in its place creating a meandering natural river improving the environment for the public.
