Omizutori Fire Festival of Nigatsu-do Hall of Todaiji Temple in Nara Japan Asia


In addition to the overwhelming scale and grandeur of this historical area, every March the Buddhist event of "Omizutori" is held at the Nigatsudo portion of Todaiji Temple. In this event, eleven Buddhist priests run through Nigatsudo carrying giant wooden torches. The festival is intended to welcome spring and pray for a plentiful harvest. This ceremony has taken place since its commencement in the 8th century.
