The oldest and most important building in Priene. Prince Orophernes of Cappadocia made a gift to the people of Priene of a cult statue of the goddess Athena. The statue is long since destroyed but from pieces found it was probablyabout metres tall. A truly amazing, peaceful structure much damaged over the years by earthquakes.
