Capricho de Gaudi in the town of Comillas, Cantabria, Spain, Europe


The Caprice is a building designed in 1883 by the Catalan architect Antoni Gaudi in the Cantabrian town of Comillas. His real name is Villa Quijano, but he applied the name Caprice for being commissioned by Maximo Diaz de Quijano, brother of the Marquis of Comillas, who wanted a summer residence of oriental type. The work was carried out between 1883 and 1885. El Capricho es un edificio proyectado en 1883 por el arquitecto catalán Antoni Gaudí en la localidad cántabra de Comillas. Su nombre real es Villa Quijano, pero se le aplicó el nombre de Capricho por tratarse de un encargo de Máximo Díaz de Quijano, cuñado del Marqués de Comillas, que deseaba una residencia de verano de tipo oriental. Las obras se realizaron entre 1883 y 1885.
