The picturesque village of Porto Cervo was designed in the 1950's and 60's by architects and designers like Jacques Couelle, Luigi Vietti and Michele Busiri Vici. The centre is made up of grotto-style buildings in a variety of pastel colours. This is a resort renowned for its sophisticated and wealthy clientele. The shops are filled with a wide range of designer clothes, jewellery and art work. Although renowned for its classy bars and restaurants just wander around and be seen in the more affordable cafes. There is a choice of traditional Italian gelateria. On the sporting side, Porto Cervo is also well known for its summer regattas. The strong September winds power the magnificent sailing vessels in the biennial Rolex Swan Cup Sailing World Championships. The small Stella Maris church is just a short walk to the west, overlooking the Marina and the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda. It is a simple white-washed building designed in the early 1960’s by Michele Busiri Vici.
