Just after Mrs. Garfields arrivalthere was a sudden collapse which seemed to be the end, and the family of thePresident were hastily summoned to his bedside ; but to the surprise of every-one, the crisis passed, and for three weeks he seemed to improve. Then camea turn for the worse, and from that time the President lost ground. The hotsummer days, hard to bear even for those in full health, wasted and weakened. ASSASSINATION OF PRESIDKNT GARFIELD.
