The conductor is provided with Trip Slips ofdifferent colors for different rates of fare, onwhich he is obliged to punch out a numberevery time he receives a fare ; there is a registerin the Punch which records the number of timesit is operated ; the register and the receptacle forclippings are secured by a combination lock,which renders access to them impossible by anyone unacquainted with the combination. When the conductor renders his report to theofiice he returns his Trip Slips, Tickets andPunch; and the Register Totals, Slips, and Clippings should agree.
