View SSW of Venton Uny Holy Well on the cliff at Carbis Bay, overlooking Porth Kidney Sands & St Ives Bay, Lelant, Cornwall, England, UK. Associated with the C5th St Euny of Lelant, but also renowned as a wishing well & known locally as the Fairy Well. A trickle of water at the base of an overhanging rock feeds a rock-cut basin square x deep. A stream runs along the side & some of the water flows into the well via a gutter. Steps lead down to the well from the South West Coast Path. Still used as a wishing well & dressed with clouties & other offerings. Venton is Cornish for a well, spring or fountain.
