Bl.\ck-necked Grebe {Podiceps n. nigricollis) .—Two in winter plumage were diving repeatedly just outside the harbour at Penzance on Noven\ber nth, 1919. A. W. Boyd. NOTES FROM LEICESTERSHIRE. Short-eared Owl {Asto ) does not seem to have been recorded often from Leicestershire, so I may note that a male was taken at Oueeniborough on October 13th, 1919. Hobby [Falco s. siibbuteo).—A pair reared one young one which had left the nest by July 12th, 1919. They had used an old Sparrow-Hawk's nest in the fork of an oak. Green Sandpiper {Tringa ochropus).—A female, moulting some of the primaries and wing-coverts, was obtained on July 14th, 1919, at Barkby Thorpe. Black Tern {Hydrochelidon n. nigra).—A party of nine visited some flooded ground near /^ueeniborough several times during the first two weeks of 'May 1919.
