Fig. 1500.—TuirillChuicli. G:ilcway to Cluucliy;ad. MONUMENT IN KINTORE CHURCH, Aberdeenshirk. This very interesting and unique monument (Fig. 1301) is built intothe wall of Kinture Church. It consists of two parts, the lower portionforming a panel to contain an inscription or coat of arms, and the upperportion being enriched with a- beautifully carved bas-relief, representing amonstrance of elaborate tabernacle work, supported by two angels andciowned with a sculptured crucifix. The whole monument is surroundedwith a frame composed uf a series of baluster-shaped shafts covered withflat foliage of a Renaissance character. The monument is evidently much older than the church (which wasnot erected until 1819), but owing to the panel at the bottom beingblank, there is nothing to form a guide to the name of the person whomit commemorates, nor can any information be obtained on the spot. Itseems not unlikely, however, that it was brought from the church ofKinkell, about two miles to the
