Dawn redwood (metasequoia glyptostroboides) illuminated by the rising sun on a humid summer morning. Called a fossil tree, it was thought to be extinct until a specimen was found in China before World War two. After the war, seeds were collected and brought to North America where it is now a popular landscape tree.
