Leopard tortoise (Geochelone pardalis) on the ground. This tortoise feeds on grasses, fruits and the pads of the prickly pear. The largest specimens can reach 60 centimetres in length. It is widely distributed throughout sub-Saharan Africa, in semi-arid grassland. Photographed in Kruger National Park, South Africa.
