Oil Seed Rape (Canola) field with tree on skyline, near Bassaleg, Newport, South Wales, UK.

How yellow is my valley? Oil Seed Rape fields near Bassaleg, Newport. Also known as Canola, Rape produces an oil which when cold pressed is high in Omega 3 fatty acids which are beneficial to health, reducing cardio vascular inflammation. They are also being recognised as an important source of oil for bio-fuels including bio-diesel. In this capacity they are much better for the environment than using Palm Oil which contributes to destruction of rain forests and water pollution and water scarcity. People may not like the yellow fields and some may find the pollen hard to tolerate but they are a feature of Spring which is now here to stay.
