SHIMODA, Japan (May 17, 2018) Sailors from the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Curtis Wilbur (DDG 54) compete in a community relations volleyball match with participants from the local community as part of the Shimoda Black Ship Festival. The 79th Shimoda Black Ship Festival promotes peaceful relations between the Japanese and American people and commemorates the 164th anniversary of the arrival of Commodore Matthew Perry to Japan in 1854, an event which marked the beginning of diplomacy and trade agreements between the and Japan.
