Exterior detail of S wall of C7th nave of Escomb Saxon (Anglian) church built of reused stones brought from Binchester Roman fort. The sundial with snake decoration & the small round-headed window are original Saxon features. The church displays Irish influence in its building style and 'Celtic' circular churchyard.
