In December, 1883, the Medical School moved into its newbuilding on Boylston Street (corner of Exeter Street).There was official pomp and unofficial jubilation, for theyvv-ere observing also the one-hundredth anniversary of theirfounding. In the completion of this building, too, the militant wisdomof the reformers found its final expression. During the pre-vious ten years the School had received, by gifts and bequests,three hundred and twenty thousand dollars; it had built andequipped a new house at a total cost of over three hundredand twenty-one thousand dollars; it had increased its annualexpenditure for teachers salaries from twenty thousand dol-lars to thirty-six thousand dollars; its receipts yearly exceededits expenses, and it had added over one hundred thousanddolla
