Interior of a plastic compost bin for home use with food scraps and garden waste inside

Compost is a great way to make your fertilizer that is natural and organic. Composting simply requires a heap of wet organic matter, green waste such as leaves food waste, cardboard, etc. You keep the materials wet and wait for them to break down into humus, this can be as short as a few weeks or as long as several months depending on various factors. You can buy a bin to contain your compost but it's not necessary, anything that can hold it in place is fine.
