Very beautiful blue-ground porcelain sugar bowl by Meiji artist Takeuchi Chubei decorated in unusual textured ‘sharkskin’ glaze (鮫肌釉). Depicting butterflies amongst falling cherry blossom and with foliate scrolls embellishing its flared rim. Base inscribed with characteristic patent number in black overglaze enamel. Height: 14 cm. Width: 17 cm.
