The 5th century BC columns of the temple of Athena presently supporting the 640AD Christian cathedral in Syracuse, Sicily
The 5th century BC Greeks erected a temple to Athena which was adapted to become a Christian cathedral in 640 AD under Bishop Zosimus. Further remodelling took place under the Normans and later again when an earthquake toppled the front. A Baroque facade was finished in 1754.
