The Depot in connection with this d(>i)art-ment is situated at Xewton Road, near the top ofSymonds Street. An emergency man is always on dutyhere, and, on account of the central position, he canreach the scene of a breakdown in the shortest of time. CAR SHEDS. There are two sheds for the deputing of cars, onesituated at Jervois Road, Hernc Hay, antl the other atManukau Road, Epsom. The tiacks in the car sheds. All iiiiiniiii; repairs and cleaninga^re effected in those two cai sheds, most of the work ofnecessity being carried out at night. A few machinetools are installed at each car shed fni- the carrying outof small repair work. ROLLING STOCK. The number of passenger cars at the present timeis 169. Of these 24 aie of the four-wheeled tyj^e,coupled in i)aiis, each with a seating capacity for 56passengers ; 108 cars, with seating foi- 52 i)assengers, areof the vestibule composite type, equijiped with bogietrucks, and the majority with two .50 motors. Theremaining 37 are of various tjpes, including double-decked cars. All the cars aie fitted with glass fionts,to afford protection from the weather, and with threetypes of —an air and a hand brake to operate onthe wheels, and a slipper brake
