Steam drifting from some of the hot springs in the Wairakei Natural Thermal Valley which is off the Thermal Explorer Highway (State Highway 5) between the lakeside towns of Taupo and Rotorua near the centre of New Zealand's North Island. Visitors take a self-guided thermal walk along well-trodden tracks and across a wooden high raised boardwalk and steps through the natural volcanic unspoiled landscape with hot springs, mineral pools and spluttering mud pools, plus a variety of birds such as New Zealand’s Black Robin.
