Brain scans. Coloured magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans through a human head showing a healthy brain. Multiple sections through the head are seen. At top and bottom are sagittal \slices\" in which the head is seen in profile. At top right and upper left are axial (horizontal) \"slices\" with the eyes and nose also seen. At lower left are two coronal \"slices\" vertically through the head from ear to ear. In each scan the folded brain can be seen. MRI scanning uses a powerful magnet and radio waves to create \"slice\" images through the body. The technique is useful in imaging soft tissues of the brain and body."
